BHOOTHAKALAM

Bhoothakalam is a film which can be categorized into psycho-horror genre. With Shane Nigam, and Revathy in lead roles, film starts off slowly by revealing its hidden elements in a gradual pace. The makers takes their time to establish the characters and their background which was essential for this film. Constructed in a small budget, there is a fine element of perfection in each shot which keeps us guessing through out the film.

Shane Nigam's mother debuting as a Co-Producer and Shane himself composing the only song in this film, there are a lot of things to look out in this movie. Rather than focusing on the horror element, film gives more emphasis on tackling our inner beasts. Revathy after a long time brings out her best and Shane Nigam does what he usually does in recent films, i.e. portraying the role of a carefree spoiled brat.

The film takes its turn in the second half where the makers with their tight script makes the film moving with some stunning scenes. The last fifteen minutes of this movie is exceptional and really breath taking. Even though Bhoothakalam doesn't have a solid ending or what you can call an open ended climax, it is never short of thrills.

Bhoothakalam may not be everyone's cup of tea and can be stereotypical at times but it is a decent psycho-horror flick which has its moments.
