Beast
Ok, so the much hyped Vijay starrer ( and a much more hyped Nelson directorial ) comes with such huge promotional gimmicks turns out to be forgettable affair altogether. Pitched as a heist film, there are no convincing elements which justifies the core theme of the film. And even the black humour which was the trademark of Nelson doesn't really kickes off in this film. Pooja Hegde was only good for the mesmerising songs which Anirudh has composed.
Film starts off in a promising way with Vijay looking different from his prevoius films only moves on to don the masala entertainer role he usually does. The dull pace of the film is what makes this a really dull affair. Apart from the neatly made action scenes and screen presence which Vijay holds, there is nothing new in Beast.
Nelson who made two blockbusters previously is just a shadow of what he has done in the past. This same thing happened with Lokesh when he directed master, who has prevously nailed a film like Kaithi. The problem arises when a script is customized to include that tailor made Vijay impact, which somehow reduces the experimental ability which a director holds in a particular movie.
Its time for Vijay to avoid his formulaic predefined version and come up in a new avatar - and the same holds for Nelson who is known for his good films. Then, let's just wait for Thalapathy 66!
