MEMORIES OF MURDER

Expanding my horizon of Korean movies, 'Memories of Murder' was the latest addition to my list. Witnessing lot of recommendations from different websites, this Bong Joon Ho film was my much awaited watch (ps: I haven't watched Parasite yet). Inspired by real events, film starts off by showing different murders in the same manner and investigation following the same. Even though this film was released in 2003, you still get a feeling of freshness in every frame and that is one thing which makes me addicted to these Korean flicks.

Storyline moves in a slow phase during the first half and picks up the thrill element as soon as the antagonist starts playing. Background score and editing are above par level and the makers succeeds in creating a haunting feel inside the viewers. Rather than revealing the mannerisms of antagonist, film has rather tried to portray the helplessness of the police force and the drawbacks of Korean scientific system in order to prove a crime.

I have seen several movies which deals around a killer, but the one thing which strikes me here is the limited screen space of the antagonist. May be that is the reason why the process of finding the killer was exhausting as shown in here. Without getting much into the storyline, 'Memories of Murder' is an other movie with an open ending climax which may not serve majority of the viewers, but considering the brilliant film-making and exemplary screenplay, it is still a classic.
