Valimai

Ajith Kumar badly needed a great comeback into the box office and Valimai is such an attempt which the makers themselves names it as the biggest action thriller in Indian cinema. Where Valimai scores is obviously in its action sequences. The effort which has been put forwarded to pull out such amazing stunt sequences in a South Indian movie is really praise worthy and it is astonishing to watch those scenes in big screens too.

Barring the action sequences, Valimai is a typical mass masala stuff, which has a larger than life hero, his dependable family members, sidekick heroine and a power packed antagonist. First half of the film moves in a sheer pace which is very interesting to watch. Post the entrance of Ajith, he single handedly runs the show with his stunning screen presence and charisma But somewhere down the line I felt Ajith could have performed better even though the story line never gives a space for him to do so.

The biggest letdown of this film has to be its exaggerated second half. There are 20-25 minutes of unnecessary scenes which could have been easily trimmed out of this film. When a film has a run time of almost 3 hours and if it has an unengaging second half, all the efforts made in the first half is going down in vain. As I am penning this review, rightfully 15 minutes of the film has been erased and the new version will be screened in theatres from today.

The main highlight of the film has to be the first half and the stunt sequence post interval. Even the ending lack that punch which I was expecting. Valimai is that usual mass film which stands apart mainly due to its action sequences and for those scenes, you could surely watch the movie once!
